It’s sometimes difficult to remind ourselves that every day more and more business owners are just beginning to ask what is PPC?

If you have been wrestling with Google’s Awords program, or Yahoo! AdCenter or MSN’s own version of pay-per-click advertising then PPC will be an acronym that may have already become part of a dream marketing strategy …or more often…a nightmare!

One thing is for certain it is relatively easy to start your first pay-per-click advertising campaign…that is to say it is easy enough to part with money to the company that runs your ads… But it is far more difficult to start seeing a reasonable return on your advertising budget!

As an advertiser you can begin to feel penalized by the various rules and regulations that have been put in place by the major ppc providers… Google is well known for its apparent lack of consideration for those folk who so generously contribute to its coffers via their advertising fees! And Google is such a big and successful player it cannot be ignored if you want to try and construct successful campaigns that will most likely hit your preferred market between the eyes!

But in the process of discovering just what is PPC - when you find out how to do it right - it is undeniable that for the majority of businesses online marketing of this kind is making a increasingly effective contribution to income. There is so much potential for directing your advertising with precision that other form of media cannot compete with…and it also seems so ‘relatively’ low-cost!

A good sized advert (asy 1/4 page) ina middle sized newspaper will set you back a sizeable sum - anywhere from hundreds to thousands of pounds or dollars in many cases. This is to buy a ONE-OFF shot at grabbing your audience attention…After the day of publication the impact of that expensive newsprint ad is almost nil.

But online your ad can be show thousands or even millions of times and you don’t even pay ONE RED CENT! Until…until someone actual ‘clicks’ your ad to see what you have to offer… That is when you pay for the click!

And that click might cost you a little as 10 cents, or might be costing many dollars - all depending on how you have constructed your campaign and whether or not you have chose the best parameters to determine the ad costs…

You might have a meagre budget of only a few dollars a day to spend on ads - but let’s say you set a typical budget of US$50 as a MAXIMUM daily spend…that can sound scary- because it would mean spending about US$1500 as month - yet this is still peanuts compared with the big PPC users who may have budgets in the $100,000’s or even millions of dollars!

The reality is that you are unlikely to spend your budget daily and you can quickly get an idea of real daily spend after running a campaign for a week or so. One trick to optimizing budgets and expenditure is that you need to MONITOR CONSTANTLY - and make appropriate changes, tweaks and modifications to improve ad text, click bids, and targeting…

The beauty of PPC s that no matter how modest your online marketing budget ,you CAN compete with the big-boys spending $1000’s a day - and, better still, you CAN WIN… If you know what you are doing!

You can see that if you want to really benefit from using PPC in your business you need rapidly to develop knowledge, skills and understanding about this new advertising media…and the process of doing this will soon show you that it can be a time and money ‘vampire’!

New businesses enter the online marketing fray every day - and many totter along the perimeters of PPC spending and getting little back and some never learn why, or how to improve on performance.

For most small businesses those who RUN the business just don’t have the time to spend on getting things right and it can be tempting to draw back and ‘ignore the power’ of PPC…This is BIG mistake and can only lead to you allowing the competition to erode your business and grow faster, bigger and more successfully than you!
